In the Aude department, south of the region, you can visit prehistoric caves, the medeviel town and fortress of Caracassonne, Romanesque cloisters and abbeys. Hiking lovers can explore Narbonnaise natural park while riders will cruise along Canal du Midi. Most campsites of Aude are gathered along the coastline.

More to the north, some campsites of Gard also give you access to the Mediterranean sea - that's where you'll find famous sea resort Le Grau du Roi for instance. Inland, visit Nîmes and its Roman theatre, the city of Uzès and le Pont du Gard - Roman aqueduct... The campsites of Gard are mainly concentrated in the northern part of the department, home of Cévennes regional park, which is also partly located in Lozère.

Perfect camping holidays in Languedoc-Roussillon

Pyrénées-Orientales are south of the region and invite you to many activities - spa towns of the Catalan Pyrenees, museums, gardens, sea resorts... Camp grounds are mainly divided into 3 areas : Catalan Pyrenees regional park, by the sea and along the river Tech.

Finally, let's mention Montpellier, the region's most important city, in the Hérault department. The latter has many natural wonders to offer (caves, circus, lakes), historical (Minerve and its Cathar remains) and cultural ones (museums, aquarium). The seaside gathers many campsites obvioulsy. The back country is less popular, obviously too, which makes it a great location for quiet, relaxing holidays in high season.
